WAFC Youth Girls Competition Grand Final spot goes on the lineThursday, August 21, 2014 - 3:39 PM

The WAFC Youth Girls Competition had its Semi-Finals on the weekend as 4 teams looked to continue on their quest to reach the 2014 Grand Final after starting the season in early May.

After 11 weeks of competitive games, where teamwork, enjoyment and skill development took place, the Peel Thunderbirds claimed the minor premiership. After coming off their one point loss in last year’s Grand Final to South Fremantle, they won 9 of their 11 games. South Fremantle, Claremont and East Fremantle rounded out the top 4 after displaying some positive results in the home and away rounds. Both semi-finals were held at Dianella Open Space as curtain raisers to the WAWFL Reserves semi-finals.

In a rematch of the 2013 epic decider, it was the Peel Thunderbirds extracting revenge from their South Fremantle counterparts and booked their spot in the 2014 WAFC Youth Girls Competition Grand Final after a resounding 26 point victory in their 2nd Semi-Final winning 6.8 (44) to 3.0 (18).

Battling it out for survival in the 1st Semi-Final was Claremont and East Fremantle, with Claremont holding the upper hand after their 31 point win in Round 5. With both teams eager to progress to the next round it was Claremont who bounced East Fremantle out, coming out with a 7.6 (48) to 4.4. (28) victory by an even 20 points.

It’s Preliminary Final week in the WAFC Youth Girls Competition and it plays host to South Fremantle and Claremont. These two rivals were only separated on the home and away ladder by percentage and after Claremont, coming off a confidence-boosting elimination win over East Fremantle, will be keen to take it up to South Fremantle who must win to defend their 2013 Premiership and make it back to the Grand Final, as the Peel watch in anticipation for their next opponents.
