AFL Women’s Round to showcase WA talentWednesday, June 26, 2013 - 11:17 AM

FEMALE Football will be a feature at Patersons Stadium tomorrow night when players of all ages get the chance to showcase their skills as part of AFL Women’s Round.

The Mount Lawley Hawks and South Fremantle Youth Girls teams (13-17 year olds) will help kick off Women’s Round in a curtain-raiser to the West Coast Eagles v Essendon AFL game.

That will be followed at half time by NAB AFL Auskick matches featuring over 50 girls aged 5-8 from Jandakot, High Wycombe and Ocean Ridge and a little league match including  40 Junior Girls aged 8-12 from Jandakot, Bassendean, Manning and Morley.

WA women will also take the field at the MCG on Saturday, June 29 for the first ever AFL sanctioned women’s game.

A total of 12 WA players were selected in the inaugural AFL Women’s Draft to represent Melbourne Football Club and the Western Bulldogs in the ground breaking match, which will be played as a curtain-raiser to the AFL fixture between the two clubs.

South Fremantle WAFL assistant coach Michelle Cowan will also coach the Melbourne women’s side.

The Women’s Round weekend will wrap up with WAFC Schoolgirls Grand Finals for both the Moore and White divisions at Claremont Oval from 9:30am on Sunday, June 30.
