WAFL Round 3 RecapMonday, April 15, 2024 - 10:27 AM - by Chris Pike

WHAT a dramatic Round 3 of the WAFL it was with the West Coast Eagles snapping the longest ever winless streak beating the reigning premiers while four of the five matches were decided by a total of 12 points.

The fact that the 16-point margin that Peel Thunder beat East Perth by says it all about what a dramatic and exciting Round 3 of the WAFL it was across the weekend with the other games decided by one, three, four and four points.

The action got underway on Saturday at Lane Group Stadium with Peel Thunder handing East Perth its first defeat of the 2024 season with the 10.9 (69) to 8.5 (53) victory.

That's when the thrilling finishes started with the rest of the round all being decided by less than a goal.

First up was Subiaco breaking the winning run of West Perth dating back to last year with the 10.9 (69) to 8.17 (65) victory at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

It was yet another heartstopper between South Fremantle and Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the Bulldogs prevailing 10.10 (70) to 9.15 (69) to keep the Tigers winless so far in 2024.

Perth then ended another losing run beating Swan Districts for the first time since 2019 with the 9.12 (66) to 9.9 (63) victory at Mineral Resources Park in Saturday's twilight game.

The round then ended in remarkable fashion with West Coast beating East Fremantle 13.17 (95) to 14.7 (91) to snap the longest winless streak of 28 games in WAFL history.

Not only did the Eagles win for the first time since Round 10, 2022, but it was up against the reigning premiers who were fresh off a 90-point thumping of Claremont last week with Trey Ruscoe kicking three goals, and Dom Sheed racking up 25 possessions, Zane Trew 24 and Jamaine Jones 24.
