THE second last round of the 2022 WAFLW season saw plenty of standout performances once again to earn spots in the Team of the Week while the race for that last finals spot heated up further.

We had three new faces in the Team of the Week for Round 16 and they all came from East Fremantle with the Sharks beating West Perth. Torrens Revell, Aisling McCarthy and Amber Kinnane all impressed to get named to the team for the first time in 2022.

Those named to the Team of the Week for a second time were Subiaco's Helen Taylor, Peel Thunder's Greta McKinley and Swan Districts' trio Melisha Hardy, Isabella Edgley and Sarah Wielstra.

Named for a third occasion in 2022 were Peel's Jade Briggs and Subiaco's Tiah Toth.

Earning a fourth selection for the season were Peel Thunder pair Jaide Britton and Ella Roberts along with Claremont's Matilda Dyke and East Fremantle's Zipporah Fish.

Two players were named for a fifth time and they were Claremont's Madeleine Scanlon and East Fremantle's Ashlee Atkins with a seventh selection for another Shark, Ashleigh Gomes.

It was an eighth time in the Team of the Week for Peel's Chloe Wrigley, Subiaco's Tarni Golisano and East Fremantle spearhead Juliah Teakle while Ebony Dowson from the Thunder became the first player to be named 10 times during the 2022 season.

The Round 16 results saw a Grand Final rematch take place on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval and it was Peel Thunder beating Swan Districts 7.7 (49) to 4.8 (32).

The other two matches took place on Sunday with East Fremantle beating West Perth 8.14 (62) to 0.0 (0) at Joondalup's Pentanet Stadium with Subiaco defeating Claremont 3.5 (23) to 1.3 (9) at Leederville Oval.

The Round 16 results leave East Fremantle clear on top of the WAFLW ladder with a perfect 13-0 record. Claremont is still locked into second spot at 10-3 with those two teams destined for a second semi-final match up.

Peel Thunder has also guaranteed themselves third position at 7-6 to be assured of hosting the first semi-final. Their opponents remains up in the air with Swan Districts currently fourth at 6-8 but Subiaco are just behind at 6-7. 

The Swans have the bye in the last round so if the Lions beat the Thunder on Saturday, they will replace Swan Districts in fourth spot to play finals.

South Fremantle (4-9) and West Perth (0-13) are the two teams out of contention.

It all leads to the last round this Saturday with Claremont at home to West Perth, South Fremantle hosting East Fremantle, and then it all on the line with Subiaco playing Peel Thunder at Leederville Oval.

Each week of the WAFLW season during 2022, we will be selecting a Team of the Week and here's how the side for Round 16 came together.

Peel Thunder won the Grand Final rematch with Swan Districts on Saturday with Greta McKinley impressive defensively for the reigning premiers. She earned a spot in the Team of the Week for a second time on the back of 11 touches, three marks and three tackles.

Ebony Dowson became the first player this season to be named to the Team of the Week 10 times on the back of another standout performance in the back-line for Peel. She finished with another 23 disposals in the win against Swan Districts.

Jaide Britton gave some good run and drive for Peel through the middle and as a result was named to the wing in the Team of the Week for Round 16. She finished the game with 19 touches, five tackles and three marks.

Ella Roberts she continued her good form with the Thunder to be named at centre half-forward in the Team of the Week. She delivered 21 disposals, six inside 50s, four tackles, two marks and a goal.

Jade Briggs also earned a spot in the forward-line in the Team of the Week after an impressive performance in the win for the Thunder. She kicked two goals from nine kicks, three marks, three tackles and three inside-50 entries.

Chloe Wrigley earned a spot on the ball in the Team of the Week for the eighth time she has earned selection in the 2022 season. She produced 19 possessions, two marks, two tackles and two inside 50s for the Thunder.

It might have been a loss for Swan Districts on Saturday but Isabella Edgley continued her good form down back for the black-and-whites. She earned a spot in the Team of the Week for her impressive defensive work and 14 possessions.

Sarah Wielstra fought valiantly in the ruck for Swan Districts and earned a spot in the Team of the Week on the interchange as a result. She ended up with 14 disposals, 18 hit outs, five marks, four inside-50 entries, three tackles and a goal.

Melisha Hardy also earned a spot in the Team of the Week for a second time this season after battling hard for Swan Districts against Peel. She produced nine possessions and three tackles.

East Fremantle remained undefeated this season with a big win over West Perth on Sunday with Ashleigh Gomes impressive again to earn the centre position in the Team of the Week. She racked up 32 possessions to go with eight tackles, eight inside 50s and five marks.

Zipporah Fish also earned a spot in the Team of the Week for a fourth time. She was named on the wing in Round 16 after a performance made up of 15 touches, five marks, five inside 50s, three tackles and a goal.

Ashlee Atkins is in a serious vein of form as well for East Fremantle and was named to the Team of the Week for a fifth time over the past six rounds. She produced 28 touches, nine tackles, four marks, four inside 50s and a goal in the win over West Perth.

Torrens Revell delivered her best performance of the season for East Fremantle to be named in the forward-line in the Team of the Week. She kicked two goals from eight kicks and two tackles against the Falcons.

Julia Teakle was the main target up forward once more for East Fremantle to earn a spot in the Team of the Week for an eighth time. She kicked two goals from 17 touches, four marks and two tackles.

Amber Kinnane was another East Fremantle player to produce her best performance of the season in the win against West Perth to be named on the interchange. She finished Sunday's game with 32 touches, five inside 50s, four marks and three tackles.

Tiah Toth continued her impressive form for Subiaco and is a significant reason why the Lions have put themselves back in finals contention. She earned a spot in the Team of the Week for a third time over the last four weeks with 19 touches, seven tackles, six inside-50 entries and four marks.

Tarnica Golisano earned a spot in the Team of the Week for an eight time this season after a tremendous performance again for Subiaco in the win against Claremont with 28 disposals and seven tackles.

Aisling McCarthy produced her best performance of the season as well for Subiaco in the win against the Tigers. She was named to the interchange in the Team of the Week on the back of 19 touches, six tackles, five inside-50 entries and a goal.

Helen Taylor was named to the Team of the Week for a second time in the 2022 WAFLW season after producing 13 touches and six marks in Subiaco's win against Claremont.

Claremont might have lost just their third game of the season to Subiaco on Sunday but Madeleine Scanlon continued her good form to be named to centre half-back. She ended up with 23 touches, five tackles and three marks for the Tigers.

Matilda Dyke was named to the Team of the Week for a fourth time this season having battled hard in the ruck for Claremont finishing with 34 hit outs to go with 10 possessions and three tackles.
