Expressions of interest sought for WAFC CommissionersTuesday, September 1, 2020 - 10:33 AM

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC), the governing body of football in Western Australia, is seeking expressions of interest from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as a Commissioner.  The role of the Commission is to oversee the promotion, development and management of football throughout the State and provide guidance, planning and leadership to all levels of the game.

The West Australian Football Commission has recently revised its strategy, structure and funding models. This involved defining a new financial model, a leaner staffing structure and exploring opportunities to outsource some WAFC services and programs in consultation with our stakeholders. The structural review integrates into a reset and revitalisation of football right across WA.

We are seeking a diversified representation of Commissioners, by reference to gender, age, culture, background and ethnicity, who can assist in leading both the WAFC and the WA football industry through an exciting period of transformation, support the good governance and accountability of our organisation and foster strong relations across all stakeholders to our game.

Experience and exposure to community sport, not just football, will be highly regarded. A level of participation and engagement is required with stakeholders as well as the ability to contribute actively at board level with independence and objectivity.  Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Governance course is a desirable qualification.

There are four positions to be filled, three of which relate to Commissioners who will retire by rotation and are eligible to stand again and may be seeking reappointment. All four appointments will be effective for 3-year terms from 1.1.21 to 1.1.24. The position of Commissioner is not remunerated.

The Commission is a not-for-profit sports association established in 1989 and is responsible for the overall development and strategic direction of football in Western Australia.  The Commission owns the West Coast Eagles FC and Fremantle Dockers FC as wholly-owned subsidiaries and oversees the operations of the WAFL, junior and senior community football, umpiring and development.

As the Commission strives to be as diverse as the communities we represent we actively encourage applications from women, indigenous and multicultural candidates.

Details of Commissioner duties and obligations are available – please contact aemery@wafc.com.au for details.

Expressions of interest should include a curriculum vitae and a one-page covering letter (max. 400 words) outlining how you believe you would contribute to the WAFC and the future direction of football in WA, and should be forwarded to:

Mr Gavin Taylor, Chief Executive Officer
West Australian Football Commission
PO Box 275, Subiaco WA 6904
or emailed to aemery@wafc.com.au

A submission of an expression of interest conveys consent for the statement, curriculum vitae and photograph, if included, to be circulated to the Nominee Members, Ordinary Members and Affiliates of the WAFC.

Expressions of interest must be received by 4.00pm on Friday 25 September 2020.
