Exciting opportunity to join Women's Advisory CommitteeFriday, October 4, 2019 - 1:59 PM

The West Australian Football Commission is seeking expressions of interest from persons wishing to be considered for an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed Women in Football Advisory Committee.

The Committee is being established to guide the development of a Strategic Action Plan for women in football in WA and to provide the WAFC with ongoing strategic and practical advice on strategic areas set out in the Committee Terms of Reference.

Women’s football is experiencing an exciting period of growth, driven in part by the success of the AFLW and greater focus on female talent and community pathways. The number of female participants has increased from 49,000 in 2015 to 109,000 in 2018 (+122%).

Women and girls now account for a third of participants in WA (32%).  This represents a tremendous opportunity for football in WA, however this accelerated growth also comes with challenges.

The Women in Football Advisory Committee will play an important role in helping to shape the involvement of women and girls in football for generations to come both on and off the field.

The WAFC is seeking a diversified representation of Committee Members, by reference to gender, age, culture, background, ethnicity and skillset, who can assist in supporting the WAFC and the WA football industry through this exciting period of growth in women’s football.

Experience, exposure or interest in women’s sport, not just football, will be highly regarded alongside experience and demonstrated skills in the following general categories of governance, strategic thinking and leadership. In addition, experience in the following areas would also be highly regarded:

•          Accounting;

•          Risk management;

•          Public policy or government relations;

•          Community relations;

•          Commercial;

•          Marketing or audience;

•          People and culture (including HR).

There are up to four positions on the Committee to be filled. Committee Membership will be staggered to encourage committee renewal and retain corporate memory. All members will serve a maximum of a three-year term with an option to serve a second three-year term. The position of Committee Member is not remunerated.

Details of the Committee Member Role Profile as well as the Terms of Reference for the Committee are available by clicking the following links:
