International Students Experience an AFL GameWednesday, September 4, 2019 - 10:53 AM

During Round 22, a group of 12 international students were invited to watch Fremantle Dockers and Essendon play at Optus Stadium. This AFL Experience is a part of the WAFC diversity plan, which aims to get more people from all background involved in football.

AFL Diversity Ambassador, Manpreet Singh, has been studying and working in Australia for the past 7 years. During his time in Australia, Manpreet has realised how great a tool AFL is for stress relief, and wanted to share the experience with current students. Manpreet registered as an ambassador at the beginning of 2019, in hope that he would be able to spread cultural awareness, and encourage everyone to be a part of our community.

Manpreet selected a group of students from the international college he works at. The students represented 8 nationalities, all with different experiences and knowledge bases of football. A couple students had not only never watched a game of AFL before, but had never been in a stadium before. Many of the students hadn't realised there were West Australian AFL teams, and are now wanting to support them after watching the game.

All students had a great time, and we would like to thank Manpreet for helping organise this day.
