Western Australia have suffered defeat in their final match of the AFLW U18s National Championships, with Vic Country running out two-point winners at Bond University on Friday.
In a highly-competitive fixture, WA couldn’t find a goal late in the final term to overcome the powerful Victorian side.
Kia Buckley had a set shot with only seconds remaining, however couldn’t quite make the distance, meaning WA finish with a 3-2 record at the carnival.
Mikayla Bowen was again outstanding for the WA side collecting 18 touches and five clearances, while Mim Strom was dominant in the ruck with 32 hit-outs.
Western Australia started the game with Mim Strom snatching a ball out of the ruck and converting from close range, before Kia Buckley claimed her first of the afternoon to extend the lead to two goals.
Mikayla Morrison showed her pace early in the second, burning off her opponent inside 50, and finishing smartly on her right.
From there, it was all Vic Country.
A two-goal to none third term proved the difference in the game, with Vic Country not relinquishing their lead after three-quarter time.
WA pushed hard in the dying stages but couldn’t halt the Victorian momentum.
The Western Australian side finishes the carnival with two wins over Queensland and a strong performance over the Central Allies.
