THERE were two heart stoppers in the Simply Energy Colts in Round 7 with Perth and Peel Thunder scoring thrilling victories by under a goal while East Perth and Claremont were the others to taste the winning feeling on Saturday.

All four matches in Round 7 of the colts competition took place on Saturday and it saw Peel Thunder hold off West Perth in a thriller at Joondalup's HBF Arena. Peel ended up winning 8.12 (60) to 9.4 (58).

East Fremantle and Perth took their talents to Geraldton and produced a cracking contest with the Demons ending up holding on for the 9.8 (62) to 8.11 (59) win against the Sharks.

East Perth also scored a strong win at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday over South Fremantle with the Royals beating the Bulldogs 11.9 (75) to 8.9 (57).

The last game of the round took place at Claremont Oval with Claremont beating Subiaco 12.7 (79) to 7.9 (51).

After seven rounds of the colts competition, Swan Districts remains on top of the ladder despite the Round 7 bye with a perfect 6-0 record.

Peel Thunder (5-1) sits in second position ahead of West Perth (4-3), Claremont (3-3) and Perth (3-3).

East Perth (3-3) is just outside the top five in sixth position ahead of East Fremantle (2-5), South Fremantle (1-5) and Subiaco (1-5).

ROUND 7 SIMPLY ENERGY COLTS

EAST FREMANTLE 8.11 (59) lost to PERTH 9.8 (62)

East Fremantle and Perth had both won two games in the colts competition coming into their clash on Saturday and it was a thriller with the Demons ending up prevailing by three points.

East Fremantle and Perth took their colts show on the road on Saturday for the clash in the evening in Geraldton, and they delivered a tremendous contest for those in attendance for the game in Sharks territory.

It was a tight opening with two goals apiece in the opening quarter before Perth kicked away in the second term with three goals to one and that saw the Demons take a 13-point lead into the half-time break.

But East Fremantle fired back in the third term by kicking four goals to one and that saw the Sharks set the challenge up for the Demons by leading by eight points at three quarter-time.

Perth answered the challenge, though, with the Demons kicking three goals to one in the last term to snatch the 9.8 (62) to 8.11 (59) victory.

The win means that Perth improves to a 3-3 record on the season to sit in fifth position while East Fremantle is now 2-5 in seventh spot.

Kaden Elliott and Sam Sardelic kicked two goals each for Perth while Simon Hayward, Owen McClelland, Mitch McLlheney, Hamish McFarlane and Kya Muir all added one apiece.

Ed Curley kicked two goals for East Fremantle as did Dylan Curley while Michael Wright, Owen Dann, Xavier Wright and Reuban McGuire all kicked a goal apiece.

 

SOUTH FREMANTLE 8.9 (57) lost to EAST PERTH 11.9 (75)

East Perth started its day at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday in impressive fashion with an 18-point win on the road against South Fremantle.

The players got to enjoy a bit more of a Saturday morning sleep in with the 11.30am bounce down time for the game and it was South Fremantle who started the better in search of their second win of the season.

The Bulldogs had six scoring shots to three in the opening quarter and kicked goals to one to go into quarter-time leading by eight points.

Both teams managed to kick two goals apiece in the second quarter leaving South Fremantle to go into half-time still holding a four-point advantage over East Perth.

The Royals came out after the main break and took over the contest though. They kicked four goals to one in the third term to lead by 13 points by three quarter-time.

East Perth went on with the job in the last term too adding four more goals to three to end up winning 11.9 (75) to 8.9 (75).

The win improves the Royals to a 3-3 record on the season while the Bulldogs are 1-5 under new coach Luke Tedesco.

Kyle Robinson and Luke Furlong kicked two goals apiece for East Perth.

Harley Sparks was terrific for the Royals with 27 possessions and 13 marks while Cody Rodgers finished with 24 disposals, Liam Dellamarta 23, Adam Boules 22, Reuben Pasalich 21, Cody Nash 18 and Harry Curtin 18.

Nathan Spooner kicked two goals for South Fremantle from 13 possessions and seven marks.

Manfred Kelly collected 20 possessions for the Bulldogs, George Wessels 17, Jaxon Bellchambers 16, Adam Correia 16 and Regan Ward 15 while Nash Miller had 12 disposals, 23 hit outs and four marks in the ruck.

 

CLAREMONT 12.7 (79) defeated SUBIACO 7.9 (51)

Claremont might have started the colts season slowly but the Tigers are now building some impressive momentum after a 28-point win on Saturday against Subiaco at Claremont Oval.

Claremont has been the perennial powerhouse in the colts competition for sometime and Subiaco is the reigning premiers leading to a fascinating contest at Claremont Oval on Saturday.

Subiaco had only won once so far this season with a vastly new-look group coming off the premiership, but the Lions started well on Saturday against the Tigers kicking three goals to one in the first quarter to take a 13-point lead into quarter-time.

Claremont turned things around in the second term with four goals to one and that saw the Tigers turn that 13-point deficit at the first break into a five-point advantage at half-time.

The Tigers maintained that momentum in the third quarter as well with another four goals to two from the Lions, before Claremont booted another three goals to one in the final term to come away with the 12.7 (79) to 7.9 (51) victory.

The win improves Claremont to a 3-3 record on the season to sit in fourth position while coming off last season's premiership, Subiaco is last at 1-5 percentage behind South Fremantle.

Charlie Malone kicked four goals for Claremont with Ben Elliott also booting two majors and Jye Clark two to go with 30 possessions, eight marks and seven entries inside the forward 50.

Jack Cooley also racked up 31 possessions for the Tigers, Joel Western 27, Louis Passera 21, Tom Baldwin 20 and Luke Knight 16 to go with 21 hit outs, four marks and a goal.

Noah Ash had a tremendous game for Subiaco with two goals to go with 28 possessions and seven marks.

Tristan Hobley had a monster performance for the Lions as well amassing 42 possessions while Abraham Clinch picked up 33 disposals, Ben Golding 23, Jackson Martino 23, Sandon Page 18 and Isaac Clinch 17.

Abraham Clinch and Golding also combined to lay 22 tackles during the game.

 

WEST PERTH 9.4 (58) lost to PEEL THUNDER 8.12 (60)

It was another colts thriller at Joondalup's HBF Arena on Saturday with Peel Thunder continuing their tremendous start to the season with a two-point heart stopping triumph over West Perth.

The game took place on Saturday with an 11am bouncedown time at HBF Arena with West Perth starting well kicking three goals to one in the first quarter despite the Thunder having double the scoring shots of the Falcons.

It was then a goal apiece in the second term with West Perth clinging to a five-point advantage at the main break.

Peel then worked its way on top during the third stanza with four goals to just one from West Perth. That saw the Thunder open a 16-point lead by three quarter-time but the Falcons weren’t done with yet.

West Perth ended up kicking four goals to two in the last term but couldn’t quite get over the top of Peel, with the Thunder ending up holding on for the 8.12 (60) to 9.4 (58) victory.

The win continues the strong start to the season for the Thunder on the back of reaching the preliminary final last year. Peel now remains in second position with a 5-1 record.

West Perth is still in third position despite the loss with a 4-3 record in what has been a good start for the season for the Falcons under coach Ryan Lasscock.

Jaxon Pitts, Clifton Stack and Jaxon Egan all kicked two goals apiece for Peel.

Isiah Winder racked up 34 possessions on the day for the Thunder with Brad Oldfield also collecting 32 disposals, James Ewing 23, Zac Rankin 22, David Yaccob 22, Kyle Penny 18, Jack Sears 18, Jackson Knight 17 and Rob Hutson 17.

Ewan Brazier was a livewire up forward for West Perth, making the most of his opportunities kicking four goals from eight kicks. Lachlan Rewell also kicked two goals for the Falcons.

Tyron Hindmarsh finished with 33 possessions for West Perth, Callum Johnson 21, Heath Chapman 20, Koopah Todd 18, Liam Martin 17, Corey Rundle 17 and Zak Patterson 16 to go with six marks and 16 hit outs.
