IT was an exciting Saturday afternoon of action in the WAFL with Round 10 seeing wins for Claremont, Perth and Peel Thunder against teams inside the top five while Subiaco had some players delivering standout performances in a big win over East Fremantle.

All four Round 10 WAFL matches took place on Saturday afternoon starting with Claremont claiming its third win of the season, beating Swan Districts 13.12 (90) to 10.10 (70) at Claremont Oval in what proved to be the final match in the career of key forward Beau Maister.

Perth won its first game over South Fremantle in four years kicking the last four goals of the contest to prevail 15.8 (98) to 14.8 (92) with Lachlan Dennis kicking a career-high five goals despite six goals from Bulldogs vice-captain Mason Shaw.

Peel Thunder also conceded the last four goals at Bendigo Bank Stadium to West Perth but held on for the 11.11 (77) to 11.8 (74) victory with Ben Howlett a dominant presence with 33 possessions, 13 tackles and two goals.

Subiaco then hammered the hapless East Fremantle 19.26 (140) to 5.7 (37) at Leederville Oval with Zac Clarke dominating his ruck duel with ex-teammate Jonathon Griffin and captain Kyal Horsley delivering another 37 possessions and a goal.

Following Round 10 of the 2018 season, Subiaco remains unbeaten at 8-0 and clear on top of the WAFL ladder.

South Fremantle (6-3) sits in second position ahead of West Perth (5-4), Swan Districts (5-4) and East Perth (4-4).

Peel Thunder (4-5) is just outside the top five in front of Claremont (3-6), Perth (3-6) and East Fremantle (2-8).

BACK POCKET – BEN GIOBBI (Perth)
He arrived at Perth from VFL club the Casey Demons this season and looks to have now found the role best suited to him as a small defender. He was given the job on South Fremantle's leading goalkicker from last year, Blaine Johnson, and kept him goalless for a fourth successive week while also had 17 disposals, six inside-50 entries and three marks himself. 

FULL-BACK – JORDAN LOCKYER (Subiaco)
He has been rock solid in the Subiaco back-line over the past three years and after a slow start to 2018, is settling back into top form nicely with the undefeated Lions. The ball didn’t come down there too often but when it did, he was terrific and ended up with 21 possessions and seven marks.

BACK POCKET – DREW ROHDE (Subiaco)
He had become a regular member of the West Perth team by 2016 before having a year out of the WAFL in 2017. He has now come back with Subiaco in 2018 and slotted in nicely to the league-leaders playing every game and finding a role in the back-line. He played well again in the 103-point win against East Fremantle with 22 possessions, six marks and three inside-50 entries.

HALF-BACK FLANK – DEVIN McFARLANE (Perth)
Having started his WAFL career impressively at Peel Thunder and being a regular performer over the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons, he returned to the league last year impressively at Perth settling in at half-back before missing the opening seven games of 2018. But the powerful left-footer was at his impressive best in Saturday's win against South Fremantle finishing with 21 possessions, nine marks and five tackles.

CENTRE HALF-BACK – ETHAN HUGHES (Peel Thunder)
He might consider himself unlucky to not get another call up into Fremantle's AFL team, but his WAFL form with Peel continues to be outstanding in the back-line. As an intercept mark and then set up player going back the other way, he has put together four strong and consistent performances including his 28 possessions and 11 marks in Saturday's win against West Perth.

HALF-BACK FLANK – BAILEY ROGERS (Claremont)
Having missed the majority of the 2017 season through a knee injury, he has made a strong return to the Claremont back-line in 2018 and put together an impressive showing in Saturday's 20-point win over Swan Districts. He finished the afternoon with 24 possessions and six marks.

WING – LUKE MEADOWS (West Perth)
He has played State football for the WAFL the past three years and has been a strong, consistent performer at West Perth through that time firstly coming off a half-back flank, and now through the midfield over the past 18 months. He went up to another level in Saturday's narrow loss to Peel in Mandurah with a career-high 38 possessions, eight tackles and six inside-50 entries.

CENTRE – KYAL HORSLEY (Subiaco)
The Subiaco captain is just in remarkable form in 2018 and for everything he has done in his career as a triple premiership player, dual flag winning captain, two-time fairest and best winner and State player and skipper, it's amazing that he could be in career-best. It's hard to argue against, though, after he had another 37 possessions, nine marks, seven inside-50 entries, four tackles and a goal in the 103-point win over East Fremantle.

WING – DANYLE PEARCE (Peel Thunder)
The 258-game AFL veteran from both Port Adelaide and Fremantle continues to be the first man dumped out of the Dockers team following a disappointing loss, but he deserves enormous credit for the way he continues to conduct himself back with Peel. Once again he was outstanding in Saturday's win against West Perth racking up 31 possessions, five marks and five inside 50s.

HALF-FORWARD FLANK – BRANT COLLEDGE (Perth)
Having returned home to Perth last year after his time in the AFL at West Coast, the Demons are now getting the type of output from him in recent weeks they had been hoping. Splitting his time between half-forward and the midfield, he looks fit and motivated and his form is backing that up. He had another 29 disposals, five inside 50s, four marks, three tackles and a goal in the win against South Fremantle.

CENTRE HALF-FORWARD – LACHLAN DELAHUNTY (Subiaco)
The versatile big man is thriving on the freedom this season of not having to hold down the No. 1 ruck role with the arrival of Zac Clarke. Splitting his time between playing up forward, backing up in the ruck and even floating as a big-bodied midfielder, he is another Subiaco player in stunning form and had 28 disposals, six marks, seven hit outs and two goals against East Fremantle.

HALF-FORWARD FLANK – MAX WALTERS (Subiaco)
He is one Subiaco player who flies under the radar but he has been an outstanding contributor and consistent performer over the past 18 months now splitting his time between playing at half-forward and chopping out through the midfield. Was terrific again in the big win over the Sharks kicking three goals to go with 18 disposals.

FORWARD POCKET – LACHLAN DENNIS (Perth)
The lively mid-size forward has always looked capable of delivering the type of performance he did on Saturday but had yet to quite pull it altogether. But with the Demons still missing a tall forward target in the absence of Spencer White and Sam Garstone, he stood tall and kicked a career-best five goals from 12 kicks, four marks and four tackles. He had only kicked 14 goals in his previous 25 games, but came up huge for the Demons with his cool set shot kicking a highlight.

FULL-FORWARD – MASON SHAW (South Fremantle)
With Ben Saunders still out with a sore hamstring and Blaine Johnson goalless for a fourth straight week, South Fremantle needed its vice-captain to stand up tall and he did so kicking a career-high six goals from seven kicks and five marks. He had previously kicked five goals on five occasions in his career, including twice against Perth, but this was his first six-goal haul.

FORWARD POCKET – JAY VAN BERLO (West Perth)
For someone to have been a dual fairest and best winner, long-time captain, regular State representative, life member and veteran of 174 WAFL games to still be coming up with career-bests is a remarkable feat. Having settled into a role in the forward-line, he kicked five goals for the first time in his West Perth career against Peel on Saturday to go with nine kicks, eight marks and five tackles.

RUCK – ZAC CLARKE (Subiaco)
The former Fremantle AFL big man of 101 games missed all of 2017 with a knee injury but has settled into life at Subiaco in the WAFL nicely and not only is he holding down the ruck spot well, but his presence is making those around him better at the same time. He had a big challenge against former teammate Jonathon Griffin on Saturday and dominated in the win against East Fremantle with 20 touches, 34 hit outs, five marks and two goals.

RUCK ROVER – JYE BOLTON (Claremont)
Having already claimed the second State game Simpson Medal of his career in 2018, the 2016 Sandover Medallist is likely having a superior season to date than what he did in his first year with Claremont. He is proving unstoppable and ultra-consistent in the midfield and led the Tigers to a win over Swan Districts on Saturday with 37 disposals, seven marks, six inside 50s and three tackles.

ROVER – BEN HOWLETT (Peel Thunder)
He won the 2009 fairest and best with Peel leading into eight years at Essendon and 124 matches in the AFL before he returned to the Thunder in 2018. He has picked up right where he left off and the 29-year-old was named M & J Chickens Player of the Round following his best afield showing in Saturday's win against West Perth with 33 possessions, 13 tackles and the game's opening two goals.

INTERCHANGE – TOM CURREN (Claremont)
The former St Kilda midfielder had a slow start to the season adjusting to life in the WAFL at Claremont, but his past two weeks have been his best and he was superb both in winning the ball and with his physicality in the win over Swan Districts at Claremont Oval. Finished the afternoon with 28 disposals, five marks and two goals.

INTERCHANGE – MATT RIGGIO (Swan Districts)
It proved a challenging afternoon for Swan Districts as they went down to Claremont by 20 points at Claremont Oval, but he and Rhys Palmer both fought hard in the midfield against the tide. The 167-game premiership winning on-baller worked tirelessly for Swans to end up with 27 possessions, five inside-50 entries, four marks and a goal.

INTERCHANGE – MARLION PICKETT (South Fremantle)
Having made his mark as a dynamic running defender in recent years for South Fremantle, he continues to thrive in the midfield role that he stepped into in 2018 following the departure of Tim Kelly to Geelong in the AFL. He was tremendous again in Saturday's narrow loss to Perth with 27 possessions, seven inside-50 entries and four marks.

INTERCHANGE – SHANE NELSON (West Perth)
The triple fairest and best winner and veteran now of 126 WAFL games continued his brilliant 2018 season with another starring role in the midfield despite the three-point loss to Peel in Mandurah. He could very well be having the best season of his career, and that's really saying something, and he had another 36 possessions, six inside 50s and four tackles.
