WAFL AHG Finals Week 1 teams and previewsSaturday, September 2, 2017 - 1:05 AM

THE AHG WAFL Finals Series for 2017 begins this weekend with a monster Qualifying Final between South Fremantle and Peel Thunder on Saturday, and Elimination Final between Swan Districts and West Perth on Sunday.

It is set to be a cracking weekend of WAFL finals action with the Qualifying Final on Saturday to be shown live on 7mate from 2pm and then the Elimination Final on Sunday to be live on Channel 7 from 2.30pm.

South Fremantle and Peel Thunder will get things underway on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with a place in next week's second semi-final against the minor premier Subiaco at stake.

The winner on Saturday will go on to play the Lions while the loser will host a first semi-final also next weekend against the winner of the Elimination Final.

Speaking of that Elimination Final, it will take place at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday afternoon with Swan Districts taking on West Perth.

Both teams were far from in peak form entering the finals, but they had previously played well enough to put themselves in a position to qualify for finals and now the season for one will continue after Sunday, and it will be over for the loser.

Swans will have the added motivation of celebrating the 200th game of versatile big man Tony Notte and to ensure it won't be the last game of club great Tallan Ames who has announced his retirement.

But with the season on the line, it's not as if that's not enough motivation in its own right and West Perth won't be lacking in incentive to try and win and to book a place in next week's first semi-final against the loser of the South Fremantle-Peel clash on Saturday.

Meanwhile the Reserves Qualifying Final will take place at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday with Claremont playing Subiaco. The Elimination Final features Perth and Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday.

And then in the Colts, the Elimination Final takes place on Saturday morning at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with Peel Thunder playing East Perth. The Qualifying Final will be played at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday between Claremont and Swan Districts.
