WAFL Round 21 teams and previewsFriday, August 11, 2017 - 1:51 PM

THE top two and bottom two spots in the WAFL might have their teams decided for 2017 but in between remains a fascinating battle over finals positions coming into Round 21 on Saturday.

Subiaco is guaranteed of the minor premiership for a third straight season and South Fremantle will finish second for the second consecutive year. East Fremantle and Perth also remain anchored to the bottom two spots even though who finishes last is still to be determined.

While Peel Thunder and Swan Districts do appear set to occupy third and fourth spots as well, nothing is guaranteed for either and then there is East Perth, West Perth and Claremont remaining in a fight for what appears just the one available finals position.

That sets up a fascinating afternoon on Saturday with East Perth to take on Swan Districts at Leederville Oval. A win for the Royals and they remain a hope of not only playing finals, but finishing third or fourth. While Swans can guarantee their finals berth with a victory.

Claremont also needs to beat South Fremantle a Claremont Oval to keep its finals hopes alive. The Bulldogs are on a seven-game winning streak and while can't move from second spot, won't be looking to do the Tigers any favours.

West Perth fell out of the top five last Saturday and now needs to beat East Fremantle on Saturday at HBF Arena to be a chance of reclaiming fifth position.

Peel Thunder is coming back from the bye and can lock away a finals position and go a long way to securing third up against Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium.

The league-leading Subiaco on a 17-game winning streak has the bye.
