IT was NAIDOC Round in the WAFL on Saturday with Subiaco again asserting its dominance while the teams just below them South Fremantle, Peel Thunder and Swan Districts all recorded victories.
The top four WAFL teams all had victories on Saturday to celebrate NAIDOC Round in recognition and celebration of the Indigenous culture and the contributions made to the game with all eight clubs wearing specially designed jumpers along with artwork on the Burley footballs.
The traditional NAIDOC Round clash has been Claremont taking on South Fremantle, and after a slow start, the second placed Bulldogs proved too strong for the Tigers winning 14.7 (91) to 10.6 (66) at Claremont Oval.
South Fremantle kicked 13 goals to five after quarter-time to record their first NAIDOC Round win since 2009 and their first win at Claremont Oval since 2008. The Bulldogs were also celebrating Haiden Schloithe's 100th game who starred with a career-best five goals and 27 possessions.
Peel Thunder benefited greatly from its remarkably accuracy and made West Perth pay for not kicking straight with the reigning premiers winning 16.3 (99) to 9.15 (69) at HBF Arena.
Swan Districts had to fight hard to overcome the bottom placed East Fremantle, but ended up prevailing 12.11 (83) to 11.10 (76) at Steel Blue Oval to remain solid in fourth position on the WAFL ladder.
The blowout of the afternoon took place at Leederville Oval with the league-leading Subiaco winning a 13th straight match beating Perth 20.21 (141) to 9.5 (59).
