ROUND 1 of the 2017 WAFL season on Saturday saw plenty of strong performances across the Reserves and RediMed Colts fixtures.

Saturday's reserves fixtures saw East Fremantle defeat Claremont 15.9 (99); East Perth beat Peel Thunder 20.14 (134) to 8.8 (56); Subiaco down South Fremantle in a thriller 9.12 (66) to 9.11 (65) and Perth prevail over Swan Districts 16.5 (101) to 8.3 (51).

And in the RediMed Colts, East Fremantle beat Claremont 6.16 (52) to 7.3 (45); Peel Thunder downed East Perth 13.13 (91) to 6.7 (43); South Fremantle defeated Subiaco 9.6 (60) to 7.7 (49) and Swan Districts won over Perth 6.18 (54) to 4.3 (27).

STANDOUT RESERVES PERFORMERS
East Fremantle's reserves beat Claremont at East Fremantle Oval by 53 points on Saturday with Jake Schleicher prolific through the midfield racking up 34 possessions.

Former Perth player Joel Kalajzic also gathered 28 disposals for the Sharks while Peel recruit Nathan Fahey finished with 21 disposals and five marks. Another recruit Jesse Mirco, from South Fremantle, kicked two goals from 19 touches and six marks.

Ben Harding also picked 28 possessions for East Fremantle, Carl Green 24, James Harrold 21 and Alexander Moreno 18 to go with three goals.

Gerrick Weedon kicked two goals for Claremont while Jack Bradshaw kicked one to go with 19 possessions and six marks.

Another league regular from last season, Bailey Rogers, gathered 31 possessions for the Tigers with Tom Shanahan picking up 30 touches, Bailey Bennett 23, Lachlan Martinis 22, John Williams 21, Justin Speed 21 and Morgan Davies 19. Jeremy Goddard had 33 hit outs in the ruck.

East Perth's reserves scored a thumping 78-point win over Peel at Leederville Oval with Dwayn Bolton kicking three goals for the Royals, Daniel Venables two, Jarrod Best two, Nathan Eaton two and Lewis Wilson two.

Tom Hodgson compiled 32 possessions for East Perth, Steven Payne 31, Julian Ameduri 29, Paddy Brophy 26, Nelson Waite 24, Callum Hart 21, Best 20, Daniel Venables 20 and Alex Di Placido 19.

Scott Jones worked hard in the ruck to finish with 12 possessions, 34 hit outs and a goal.

Brett Milward and Cameron Hayden both combined for four of Peel's eight goals, kicking two each while having just three kicks apiece for the game as well. Nick Merritt kicked two more of Peel's goals.

Former Carlton midfielder Brad Walsh worked hard for 27 possessions for the Thunder with Corey Morris gathering 20 touches, Haydn Matthews 19, Calvin Thorne 19 and ruckman Jake Dowding 18 to go with 20 hit outs.

South Fremantle's reserves managed to lead by a point at quarter-time but Subiaco took over with three goals to nil in the second quarter. The Lions still led by 17 points at three quarter-time before the Bulldogs came back with the only three majors of the last term but ultimately fell a point short.

Dylan Nelson and Shannon Nelson both kicked two goals apiece for Subiaco. Ruckman Jordan Bestry also kicked two goals to go with 13 possessions and 48 hit outs.

West Perth recruit Liam Baker was impressive for the Lions as well with 19 disposals and a goal while Michael Braut had 17 touches and Adam Cockie 16 to go with 10 tackles.

Tom Vandeleur and Mitch Dzelebdzic kicked two goals each for South Fremantle.

Brock Higgins is working his way back to full fitness and the ruckman had 17 touches and 42 hit outs.

Matthew Parker racked up 20 possessions for the Bulldogs, Caleb Datson 19, Travis Abbott 16 and Jarrod Garlett 15. Jarrod Parry also had nine possessions and four marks on return from his third career knee reconstruction.

Perth's reserves took away a strong 50-point victory over Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval with Callum Papertalk delivering five goals from 14 possessions and five marks for the Demons.

Guy Piggott kicked three goals from 17 possessions and six marks as well with Brennan Stack adding three goals and Kurtis Chester two to go with 28 disposals and six marks.

Taran Etto also had 19 disposals (10 tackles) for Perth, Zachary Hill 18, Kristian Morisey 17 and former West Perth ruckman Tim Sutherland 10 to go with 22 hit outs.

Josh Cipro was impressive for Swan Districts compiling 27 possessions and a goal. Jesse Turner also had 25 touches, Ben Whitsed 24, Tobe Watson 23, Ethan Maguire 19 and Troy Yukich 12 to go with 41 hit outs.

REDiMED COLTS SHINING LIGHTS
East Fremantle's colts might have been inaccurate especially in the last quarter kicking nine behinds to finish with 6.16 for the game, but they still managed to beat Claremont by seven points at East Fremantle Oval.

Liam Rajanayagam was impressive for the Sharks racking up 31 possessions.

Dylan Williams also gathered 28 disposals for East Fremantle, Gabriel Parfitt 26, Kyle Baskerville 25, Jaimon Alone 24, Samuel Lewis 24, Jayden Quill 21, Tom Eastaugh 21, Josh Ritchie 20, Aiden Wainwright 20, Cameron Davidson 18 and Chris Scott 18.

James Egan kicked two goals for Claremont with Callan England amassing 29 possessions, Jack Blaauw 27, Jack Lewsey 26, Jake Patmore 25, Ben Edwards 19 and Declan McNamara 17.

Peel Thunder's colts started their day at Leederville Oval on a winning note on Saturday beating East Perth by 48 points.

Tyson Powell kicked four goals for Peel as did Jaidon Kearing while Damon Cramer kicked three for the Thunder.

Durak Tucker picked up 26 possessions for the Thunder, Lachlan Mitchell 24, Lachlan Riley 23, Aaron Naughton 20, Brandon Penney 20, Jordan Boullineau 19, Kyle Havelberg 17 and Brynn Osborne 17.

Casey Clinch-Phillips kicked two goals for the Royals while Mitchell Tenardi finished with 24 possessions, Mitchell Gupanis 21, Cassidy Thompson 20, Jaxon Cahill 19, Nathan Arbon 18 and Jake Dugan 16.

South Fremantle's colts held Subiaco goalless in the first quarter at Fremantle Community Bank Oval to set up an eventual 11-point Round 1 victory.

Ben Sherry was impressive for the Bulldogs finishing the game with 20 possessions and three goals. Jesse Mason also booted three goals and Glenn Byron two.

Enrique Aiken-Featherstone compiled 23 disposals for South Fremantle, Tere Teio-Yarran 19, Nic Giarrizzo 19, Brodee Knight 18, Byron 18, Kyle Hamersley 18, Regan Spooner 17.

John Frampton was a strong performer in the ruck for the Bulldogs with 22 touches, four marks and 23 hit outs.

Aaron Breman worked tremendously hard for Subiaco to finish with 23 possessions, six marks and two goals. Isaac Burrawanga also kicked two goals for the Lions.

Max Dennis compiled 28 disposals for Subiaco, Kyron Hayden 22, Liam Connolly 20 and Nick Baroni 17.

Swan Districts' colts might have been inaccurate kicking 6.18 but still beat Perth by 27 points at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.

Joseph Hinder kicked two goals for Swans with Stephen Hay picking up 24 possessions, Samuel Taylor 23, Malaki Rodoreda 20, Clinton Yarran 20 and Jack O'Sullivan 18. Ruckman Oskar Matthews also had 36 hit outs.

Ethan Hansen kicked to goals for Perth with Trent Simpson gathering 24 possessions, Caelen Bennell 22, Luke English 21, Brodey Eades 20 and Sydney Stack 19.
