Experienced umpire coach Cameron Douglas has been appointed as WAFL Field Umpire Coach for the 2017 McDonald’s WAFL Premiership season.

Douglas, who has been a WAFL Umpire Talent Academy Coach since 2014 and previously held senior umpire coaching roles at the WA Amateur Football League and Subiaco Junior District, said he was looking forward to the opportunity.

“After two seasons focussing on the Mike Ball Talent Academy Squad and WAFL Senior Squad on match days I’m really looking forward to stepping up and taking on new responsibilities,” he said.

“Being a regualr participant in the AFL Umpire Coach Professional Development Program I'm looking forward to putting these skills into practice.”

Douglas has also fulfilled match day coaching roles during the Landmark Country Championships and WAFL 14s and 15s Development Carnivals.

His professional life includes qualifications in Sport and Recreation Management and he is currently WA Business Development Manager for Touch Football Australia.

WAFL General Manager Steve Hargrave congratulated Douglas on his appointment and said his experience, passion and enthusiasm made him a terrific fit for the role.

“Cameron has taken all of the right steps to progress through the umpire coaching pathway and proven his ability to be a terrific mentor,” Hargrave said.

“I am delighted with his appointment as WAFL Field Umpire Coach for 2017 and look forward to seeing him work closely with WAFL Umpire Manager Darryl Sinclair to continue engaging, retaining and developing our WAFL umpires.

“This is a critical role for our game as we all know how important it is to have high quality umpires.”
