West Australian Football Commission election resultsWednesday, November 16, 2016 - 9:13 PM

The results of elections for Commissioners of the West Australian Football Commission were endorsed tonight, Wednesday November 16, by the Nominee Members of the WAFC (WA’s AFL and WAFL Clubs) at a meeting of WA Football stakeholders.

Current WAFC Commissioners Hon. Cheryl Edwardes AM and Mr. Neil Randall were each reappointed for terms of three years.

WAFC Chairman Murray McHenry congratulated both Commissioners on their reappointments.

“Cheryl and Neil have both done a terrific job since being appointed as Commissioners and will continue to add tremendous value with their knowledge, experience and passion for WA Football,” Mr McHenry said.

“We are very fortunate to have such high-quality volunteers dedicating their time to our game in this State and ensuring we deliver the best possible outcomes for our football community and its participants.

“I look forward to working with all Commissioners as we move into a period of reform for football in WA with a clear focus on ensuring it remains successful and sustainable for future generations.”

Hon. Cheryl Edwardes AM

Reappointed for a 3-year term from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2019  

Hon. Cheryl Edwardes AM has been a Commissioner since 1 January 2016 and is Chair of the WAFC Corporate Governance Committee and a member of the WAFC Facilities Committee.

She has been a life-long football supporter and has held memberships at South Fremantle, West Coast and Fremantle Football clubs. As Member for Kingsley for 17 years she also supported the local junior and amateur football clubs. Her professional career saw her become the first female solicitor appointed to the West Australian Parliament in 1989 and the first female Attorney General in WA in 1993. She was a Minister of 12 portfolios over eight years and the longest serving woman Minister in WA when she retired in 2005.

 

Mr. Neil Randall

Reappointed for a 3-year term from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2019  

Mr Randall has been a Commissioner since 1 January 2012 and is a member of the WAFC Football Affairs Committee, WA Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee and WAFC Finance Committee.

He has over 40 years of experience as a football player, volunteer, coach and administrator. He played over 200 league games of WAFL football and was a chairman of selectors under legendary coaches Mal Brown and Haydn Bunton. During 20 years as a Board member at Subiaco Football Club he oversaw a range of portfolios including sponsorship, marketing, facility development, membership and football.  He was Club President for seven years and also served on the WAFL Council of Presidents, including one year as Chairman. Neil has been State President of the Australian Hotels Association WA for more than a decade and is an alternate Director with the HOSTPLUS superannuation fund
