AFL is no longer just a man’s domain! Girls play footy too!

Here’s how you can be involved:

NAB Auskick - Link

NAB Auskick is for girls and boys aged between 5-8 years old.

With modified rules, it is designed to be a fun and safe game that focuses on increasing participation and skill. The coaches are all fully accredited who will help familiarise you with the game.

There are also a number of girls only Auskick centres.

The Eagles Cup - Link

The Eagles Cup is a primary interschool football competition designed for year 6 and 7 students. The rules are modified and are based on AFL Junior Rules. The focus is on participation and fun, rather than winning.

Secondary School

  • One day carnivals for U15 schoolgirls
  • Many District Development staff conduct one day clinics and Lightning carnivals for girls in years 8 and 9.
  • Ask your Health and Physical Education teachers if your school attends this day or contact Jan Cooper for your District’s information.
Smarter than Smoking Schoolgirls Cup - Link

The Smarter than Smoking Schoolgirls Cup is for girls in year 10-12 to provide a quality competition for all abilities, and offer a pathway to senior levels of the sport.

Youth Girls Competition - Link

Swan Districts Football Club has introduced a Youth Girls Competition for women aged 13-17. The competition is designed to bridge the gap between Auskick and Senior League, as previously there was no competition for girls aged between 12-17.

Western Australian Women’s Football League - Link

The WA Women’s Football League is a senior community competition and is for women over the age of 15 and has clubs that field reserves and League teams throughout the metropolitan area.

Umpiring - Link

There are many different levels and opportunities to be involved as an umpire, including, Field, Boundary or Goal Umpiring. There are qualified coaches and umpires to help at every level and you get paid to get fit!

Volunteering

You can also volunteer at your local club or within the WAFL or WAAFL as a runner or a trainer. Contact your local club for more details.
