Volunteers from the Subiaco Under 16’s and staff members helped get the day’s action underway with a series of interactive activities. These included the Big Kick and handball competition, Sing Star battles and a performance from local bands, Black Sorrows and Woodenelves. The tour was launched in Canberra on February 22 and has provided more that 150 community events in towns across Australia. Fremantle player and Australian football ambassador Des Headland was on hand to sign autographs. He said he was surprised by some of the footballers around the Fremantle region. “I’ve been trying to teach them a few skills but there have been a couple of kids that have taught me some, and that’s keeping me on my toes,” he said. “Every time you get the chance to get back to the community and local teams you do it. It is part of footy because you have to remember where you come from and started. Every AFL player knows that and they try help out as much as they can.” NAB 150 Tour Manager Belinda Allitt has been on the tour for four months and said she was thrilled that the program was able to reach a variety of people from all around Australia. “The aim of the road show is to get out there to the community and to give back to the communities that NAB and AFL have been apart of for 150 years.” General Manager for the Retail Bank of WA Tim Sullivan saw the event as a way to thank the loyal customer base and staff across the state. “We have had a strong association with the AFL for a number of years, particularly with the work we do from an Auskick point of view,” he said. “It is just terrific that it has coincided with 150 years for the AFL and 150 with NAB, so it provides a really great opportunity to get involved with the community together.” The NAB Road Show Tour continues as it heads down south to Bunbury, Mandurah and Busselton.
