The WA Football Commission in conjunction with Burley Sekem is very excited to announce the winning schools of the Burley Sekem Design a Football Jumper competition for 2013.

The WA Youth Girls kick of their National Championships campaign today in Shepparton, Victoria as they take on a combined SA/NT team at midday (WST) today.  WA finished third in 2012 and will be looking to improve on that result when the finals are decided on Friday.

Now in its fourth year the Youth Girls National Championships comprise teams from WA, Queensland, SA/NT, Vic Metro, Vic Country/Tas and NSW/ACT.  Victoria will enter two teams for the first time (Country & Metro), the previous combined side has won all three of the Championships to date.

The West Australian Football Commission encourages junior clubs and Auskick centres to nominate now for The Constable Care Child Safety Awards 2013.

Last year, NAB Auskick Coordinator Amy Potter took out an individual award for her outstanding work at Armadale Junior Football Club. The WAFC is hoping more football winners like Amy will emerge in 2013.

The prestigious annual event will recognise and reward the people and organisations whose work or voluntary efforts make a positive difference to child safety in Western Australia.

More than 50 Coles AFL School Ambassadors and their guests attended a Football Professional Development day hosted by the West Coast Eagles and West Australian Football Commission last fortnight.

The teachers from schools as far north as Butler and as far south as Mandurah spent the afternoon at Patersons Stadium interacting with West Coast Eagles players and listening to Senior Coach John Worsfold.

They were also given a preview of the 2013 West Australian Football Commission and West Coast Eagles school competitions and programs, before being taken on a tour of the West Coast Eagles club facilities.

The 2013 State U18 Youth Girls team has been named to represent WA at the National Championships in Shepparton, Victoria from May 4 to 11.

With a great mix of youth and experience, Head Coach Michelle Cowan is quietly confident the team will do well.

“The girls have displayed outstanding dedication and commitment to improving not only their skills and knowledge, but learning new tactics and strategies,” Cowan said.

School girls who love playing footy are encouraged to try out for the 2013 State Schoolgirls AFL Team in April.

The final squad will travel to Darwin to play in the National Carnival in mid-August against teams from other States including South Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria and the ACT.

Try outs for girls aged 16 years or younger (as at 31/12/13) are being held on Friday, April 12 from 3:30-5pm at Hay Park in Bunbury and on Saturday, April 13 from 10am-2pm at All Saints’ College, Bull Creek.

Subiaco Football Club and the Coastal Titans Women’s Football Club are inviting Junior Girls to attend a ‘Come & Try’ BBQ in April.

The afternoon will include a free footy clinic and information about an exciting new junior girls’ competition starting in May.

Former AFL star Shane Crawford will make his first trip to Western Australia next week as the new NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador.

Crawford, who has taken over the role from Hawthorn legend Robert Dipierdomenico, will travel to the South West towns of Australind, Bunbury and Busselton over a three day period.

Claremont Women’s Football Club is seeking a dynamic and motivated person to coach their Division 2 team for 2013.

TWO dedicated servants to country football will be honoured with WA Country Football League Life Memberships after decades of involvement with grassroots football in Western Australia.

Ben Ralph and Jim Hull were both unanimously endorsed by League delegates at the Annual General Meeting on 16 February 2013 to receive WACFL Life Memberships.

WACFL President Terry House said that both men were highly deserving of the honour for their outstanding commitment to country football over many years.

“This honour will recognise their wonderful contribution to our great game in Western Australia,” Mr House said.
