WA girls to compete for national honours


The Western Australian Youth Girls team will head to Melbourne on September 6 for the first ever AFL National Youth Girls Carnival.

The team, consisting of 28 players under the age of 18, will compete against South Australia, Queensland, ACT/NSW and Victoria in a bid for national honours.

As part of the promotion of the national carnival the AFL started the “Follow the Flight of the Ball” initiative which saw a pink ball sent to each state to be photographed with famous icons or people, including Julia Gillard.

Finals Kick Off For WAWFL


The West Australian Women’s Football League (WAWFL) 2010 finals series gets underway this weekend on 22 August.

Hamer Park, Mt Lawley will host the semi finals that will see six different clubs competing for a place in their respective Grand Final on 5 September at EFTel Oval in Perth.

Five Falcons Hit '50'


Joondalup Falcons are celebrating a number of their players reaching the 50 game mark for their club. The Falcons, who played their inaugural year in the WAWFL in 2007, would like to congratulate, Tammy Tickel, Rebecca Mallon, Sabrina Moro, Paris Ulijin and Kelly Player who have all notched up their fiftieth appearance in recent weeks. They are all pictured with Falcons Vice-President, Kate Halley-Wright being honoured after the Round 13 clash against Coastal Titans at Arena Joondalup.

Coach, Dave Burton, organised a banner for the players to run through at the start of the game to honour the occasion, while in addition, the club would like to congratulate the players on this achievement and wishes them all long and successful women's football careers.

 

WAWFL Presentation Night 2010


The West Australian Women's Football League Presentation Night will take place on Friday 27 August 2010.

Tickets are on sale now for the event that takes place at Rendezvous, Scarborough (Observation City Hotel, Harbour Suite). This annual event, which celebrates the achievements of the WAWFL's female footballers and ultimately names the player voted 'Fairest and Best', will be MC'd by Narelda Jacobs from Channel 10 News.
