UGSFL returns to the top

The Upper Great Southern Football League returned to the top of the country football mantle with a 29-point win over the Avon Football Association in the Landmark Country Championship grand final on Sunday (July 12).

It was UGSFL’s fifth A-section title in six years, while Avon finished runners-up for the second consecutive year following last season’s loss to the South West Football League.

The SWFL couldn’t claim back-to-back titles and will also be relegated to B-section next year after losing to the Goldfields Football League on Day One of the championships and being defeated by UGSFL on Day Two.

The B-section Grand Final saw the Lower South West Football League continue their remarkable return to Landmark football, defeating the Great Northern Football League after winning last season’s C-section title in their first carnival for a decade.

The SWFL continued its dominance in the A-section Colts, defeating Kimberley Spirit by 65 points to claim their ninth title in 10 years, while Great Southern won the B-section Colts by 77 points against Mortlock.
