THE RAC Football Volunteer of the Year Award is up for grabs again in 2010 and the West Australian Football Commission is calling for more nominations.
The winner will receive a trip for two to the AFL grand final including flights and accommodation as well as the chance to march in the Grand Final parade and attend an AFL breakfast function.
Now in its fifth year, the award aims to recognise the hard work of over 40,000 volunteers.
Any person who dedicates their time to the game is eligible to be nominated, across areas such as coaching, umpiring, catering, car-pooling, fundraising and beyond.
WAFC Club and Volunteer Development Coordinator Glenn Morley believes that volunteers are an essential part of the football mix and need to be celebrated.
“The RAC Football Volunteer of the Year program aims to elevate the standing of these volunteers to that of a star. Just like you have star players and star coaches we want to recognise star volunteers,” he said.
A finalist from each of the 17 football regions and districts will be selected and invited to attend the annual Sandover Medal, where the overall Volunteer of the Year winner will be announced alongside the WAFL Sandover player awards.
The 2009 overall winner was Peel District volunteer Robyn Sutton, who was selected from nearly 300 nominees for her 20 years of dedicated service to Waroona Junior Football Club.
She was presented with a framed RAC jumper to recognise the achievement, which will be proudly displayed at the club.
