Appointment coup for Peel District

THE West Australian Football Commission is excited to announce that high profile business-woman and respected politician Marion Blair has been appointed as Chairman of the Peel District Football Development Council, bringing a broad range of experience to the role vacated by Dr Neil Carroll.

Mrs Blair’s interest in football started from an early age and has seen her remain a fan ever since. Her wealth of community involvement also stretches over a number of areas and gives the Peel District an excellent advocate for participation in our State’s leading sport.

Her experience in the political arena began in 1987 when she was elected as a Local Government Councillor, which was followed by nearly 20 years of service, nine of these as Deputy Mayor.

This experience has enabled Mrs Blair to understand Governance and Governance issues and puts her in great stead to engage every stakeholder with respect and understanding.

Mrs Blair also formed the Australian Local Government Women’s Association WA Branch, was elected their first President and is now proudly a Life Member of the Association. She has also been a State Councilor and Regional Councilor of the EMRC and is a member of the Honors Panel of the West Australian Local Government Association.

Mrs Blair was also on the Swan River Trust for three and half years and worked on the Freight Network Working Group looking at better ways for our road system to handle our ever growing transport needs. Her latest journey is as a Councilor at the City of Mandurah.

WAFC Manager of Community Development, Warren Nel, said that Mrs Blair had many other interests that had engaged her with the community and given her a great understanding of community needs.

“In partnership with the District’s Development team, Marion will lead the Peel District into a very promising future,” Mr Nel said.
