Funding for football volunteers

WA Football has received a club level funding boost of nearly $120,000 to purchase equipment to support and assist the role of volunteers.

All community organisations across Australia were eligible to apply for the Federal funding totalling $21million. The grant is supplied through the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FAHSIA).

The grants were promoted to WA Football stakeholders extensively through the West Australian Football Commission website and through District and Regional managers.

A total of 32 community football groups were successful in securing grants of up to $5000 each, which will enable these organisations to purchase equipment to assist their volunteers, and contribute towards the reimbursement of fuel costs incurred in their volunteering work.

WAFC Community Development Coordinator Glenn Morley said it was another great result for WA Football following on from successful applications in 2008.

"Special congratulations to Andrew Ridley and the West Perth District Clubs of which 10 were successful. West Perth District clubs were awarded a total of $42,950," Mr Morley said.

The grant application system was changed in 2009 so that peak bodies (DFDCs and RFDCs) were not eligible to apply on behalf of all their clubs.
